If there was any question about women competing directly with men in poker, Annie Duke put that question to rest.  Ask about the biggest names in poker and you will hear about the likes of Johnny Chan, T.J. Cloutier, Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Greg Raymer, Chip Reese, and Howard Lederer.  Annie Duke beat them all to take the $2 million prize at the inaugural World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions on September 21, 2004, at the Rio.  The poker tournament was sponsored by Harrah's Entertainment and ESPN.

Some quick facts about Annie Duke:

Born in Concord, New Hampshire, in 1964.

A mother of four.

Completed a double major at Columbia University (psychology and English).

Completed various studies in cognitive psychology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Howard Lederer is her brother.

Began getting serious about poker in 1992 and played her first World Series of Poker tournament in 1994.

The most successful female player in World Series of Poker history.  Over the last 8 years, Annie Duke has earned over $500,000, was in the money in 21 WSOP tournaments, and reached 11 final tables.

Has one of the most unreadable poker faces.

Resides in Las Vegas.
