Reno Hilton World Poker Challenge
The World Poker Challenge at the
Reno Hilton is an annual
poker tournament and an official stop on the
World Poker Tour.
The World Poker Challenge takes place in March and April and usually consists of
about two weeks of daily poker tournaments and then a final three day championship
poker tournament.
The Reno Hilton has some very good poker room management and they do an
excellent job of organizing and running the World Poker Challenge tournaments.
The daily tournaments are fun poker tournaments with reasonable buy-ins
(typically between $100 and $1,000). The games are mostly limit and no limit
Texas Hold'em with an
occasional pot limit Texas Hold'em or
Omaha poker game.
If the World Poker Challenge could use any improvement, it is probably in the
variety of poker games.
The World Poker Challenge main event is a three day $5,000 buy-in Texas Hold'em
poker tournament that is also an official World Poker Tour tournament. The
winner of the tournament gets a $25,000 seat at the World Poker Tour Championship
at the Bellagio
in April.
In 2004, the World Poker Challenge main event had 342 entries and a prize pool
of $1,658,700. The winner of the event, Michael Kinney, picked up a first
place prize of $629,469.
The Reno Hilton is a full service casino resort and the hotel usually offers some
exceptional room rates in conjunction with its annual poker tournaments.
The telephone number for the Reno Hilton is (800) 501-2651.
