Jack Binion World Poker Open

The Jack Binion World Poker Open is an annual poker tournament jointly sponsored by the Horseshoe Casino and Gold Strike Casino which are next door to each other in Tunica, Mississippi.  The poker tournament takes place in January and is held on the Gold Strike Casino premises.  The tournament is a part of the World Poker Tour with the final table at the main event televised on the Travel Channel.

The World Poker Open is a very popular poker tournament series with a good variety of poker games and sizeable prize money.  The tournaments regularly draw some of the best poker players from around the world.  David " Devil Fish" Ulliott, a poker pro from the UK, won the 2003 championship tournament and a first place prize of prize of $589,175.  Barry Greenstein, another well known poker name, prevailed in 2004 and picked up a prize of $1,278,370.

The World Poker Open features 20 individual poker tournaments that take place over a three week period with buy-ins ranging from $500 to $10,000 (plus entry fees of $50 to $200).  The WPO tournaments are primarily limit, no limit, and pot limit Texas Hold'em poker games with a few Omaha and Seven Card Stud poker tournaments.  The World Poker Open also includes a Ladies no limit Texas Hold'em tournament.  Most of these tournaments are two day poker tournaments.

The main event of the World Poker Open is a four day $10,000 buy-in no limit Texas Hold'em Championship poker tournament.  This is also an official World Poker Tour tournament with the winner getting a seat at the World Poker Tour Championship at the Bellagio in April.

Satellite poker tournaments are held at both the Gold Strike Poker Room and the Horseshoe Poker Room with buy-ins as low as $65.  The poker rooms at both casinos are very nice and there are plenty of cash games going on 24 hours.
